Mommy sent Daddy Instant Messages because the chat box had a time stamp and Mommy could keep track of them that way. Most of the contractions are coming 7-9 minutes apart so Daddy told Mommy to call Jenny Allen's office. Mommy called Ms. Allen's office at 3:00 and told them what was going on and she was told to stay and work her whole shift, go home, shower, make sure her bags were packed and head to the hospital if they got any closer together.
At around 4:00 Daddy came to get Mommy so they could get ready to head home and then to the hospital. Everyone at work was excited that Mommy was leaving and it made Mommy start to cry. :) When Mommy and Daddy got home, they showered, made sure everything was in the bags, got Max in his crate and headed to the hospital.
When they arrived at the hospital, Mommy was checked into a room. She was still having contractions that were now 6-9 minutes apart. Ms. Allen just happened to be at the hospital delivering another baby when Mommy and Daddy got there. She checked Mommy and said that Mommy was still only dilated 1 1/2 cm. Ms. Allen told Mommy to go walk around and after she delivered the other baby she would come back and check Mommy again.
Mommy and Daddy started walking up and down the hall. Mommy was having contractions that were about 5 minutes apart and were more intense than before. Two hours later, Jenny came back and checked Mommy again. Mommy was still only dilated 1 1/2 cm. It was 8:00-ish and Jenny said to go home, take some Tylenol PM and rest because Mommy would be back to have the baby in the next 36 hours.
So Mommy and Daddy left, got some dinner at Chick Fil A, stopped and got some Tylenol PM. Mommy remembered her friend Cassie and Jenny both told her to take a warm bath and that would help the contractions and Mommy's back some. Mommy was running the water for her bath and had just gotten in the tub when she had the most painful contraction yet! She started yelling and screaming so loud that Max came up to see what was going on. Daddy got Mommy out of the bath tub and into the bed, gave her some Tylenol PM and laid down next to her.
Mommy's contractions were getting closer together and more intense in pain, so much that Mommy was screaming and hitting the bed! Daddy laid there rubbing her back and telling her to breathe. He was also timing the contractions. When they got to 4-5 minutes apart Daddy asked Mommy if she wanted to go back to the hospital. Mommy didn't want to be sent home again so she asked Daddy to call the hospital first. Daddy called the hospital and while on the phone with them Mommy was having another contraction. He said "If I don't bring her in now, she is not going to get out of this bed!" and the hospital said to come back.
Daddy put Mommy's robe and flip flops on her, made sure he had everything else and got Mommy in the car to leave. The contractions were getting worse. Mommy had the window rolled down to get more air. Daddy put his flashers on and was going around 70 MPH. Mommy yelled the whole way. She told Daddy that she wanted the epidural when she got to the hospital because the contractions were just too painful. She didn't care that she said she wanted to do everything natural, she wanted something because it hurt so bad.
At around 11:00 PM, Mommy & Daddy got back to the hospital where Daddy found a wheel chair for Mommy. He wheeled Mommy back up to Labor & Delivery where Mommy was admitted and put into another room. Daddy called Cassie so she could get up there in time to take the pictures Mommy wanted. Nana & Grandma Jan were also called.
Mommy was having more contractions and screamed through the pain. She told the nurses that she wanted an epidural, so the nurses called Ms. Allen and said that Mommy was getting an epidural. Then they checked Mommy to see how far she was dilated. Mommy said she wanted to be at least 4 cm because she did not want to go home. The nurse said that Mommy was 8 cm!!!
By this time, there were so many people there, Mommy didn't even know who all was there. Daddy was on her right side, coaching her through the contractions. Mommy kept asking for something for the pain but the nurses said she couldn't have anything because she was dilated so much. They kept calling Jenny to tell her how much Mommy was dilated and that she couldn't get the epidural but Jenny wasn't answering.
Nana finally got to the hospital. She got on Mommy's left side. So Daddy was on Mommy's right side holding her hand and leg while Nana was on the left side holding Mommy's left hand and leg. Mommy was in so much pain from the contractions and she started thrashing and kicking her legs. Daddy and Nana had to hold Mommy's legs even tighter to keep her from kicking anyone.
Mommy doesn't know when Jenny arrived, but she was so happy when she finally saw her!! Mommy had a couple more bad contractions and then Jenny looked at Mommy and said "Stephanie, I need you to focus on me right now. I need you to push for 10 seconds." So Mommy focused on Jenny and tried to push for 10 seconds straight but could only get 4 or 5 seconds at a time. Then Nana said "Look how much hair he has, come on, keep pushing!" So Mommy was still focused on Jenny and tried to push some more.
Mommy doesn't remember much after that. Jenny and the nurses did some other things and then Callen was out. Mommy remembers seeing Callen, blue & gray with the umbilical cord around his neck, but she remained focused on Jenny. Jenny wasn't freaking out, she pulled more of the cord from Mommy and calmly unwrapped it from Callen's neck. Callen then started turning pink and crying. Daddy got to cut his umbilical cord and then he was placed on Mommy's chest.
Callen was 7 pounds, 3.9 oz. & 19 inches long!!
A lot of the details are still very blurry to Mommy, but everything was perfect in the end!!
Tired Mommy & a happy Daddy! :)
Stayed tuned for the next blog! We have a baby!! Now what??? :P
